Abreu, Sale Named Award Finalists By BBWAA
(CBS) White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has been named a finalist for the American League Rookie of the Year award, and left-hander Chris Sale has been tabbed a finalist for the AL Cy Young award, the Baseball Writers Association of America announced Monday night.
Abreu hit .317 with 36 homers and 107 RBIs in 2014, and he was named to the AL All-Star team. There was some thought that Abreu may be an AL MVP finalist too, but he didn't get that nod.
Sale went 12-4 with a 2.17 ERA and 208 strikeouts in 26 starts this season.
The AL Rookie of the Year will be announced Monday night. The AL Cy Young winner will be announced on Nov. 12.
