Record highs in the 80s on Tuesday in Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) — After a record-setting high temperature Tuesday in the lower 80s and very high fire danger, unprecedented autumn warmth remains overnight.
Tuesday's high is expected to reach 82° in Chicago, topping the record high of 78° for Oct. 29, set in 1999.
Overnight low temperatures only fall to near 70° in Chicago – the city's warmest night ever this late in the season, and a record warm morning for Oct. 30 by a massive 8-degree margin. The current record for warmest minimum temperature on Oct. 30 stands at 62°, set in 1974.
Warm temperatures and strong southerly wind gusts continue Wednesday, though highs in the lower 80s again will not set daily records for Oct. 30.
A strong autumn storm moving toward the Chicago area from the intermountain west is projected to bring widespread rain and a few thunderstorms early on Halloween. Thursday morning looks wet, but dry, chilly winds blow in Thursday evening for more pleasant trick-or-treat plans.
Saturday plans outdoors look gorgeous before widespread rain returns Sunday through Election Day. Many areas may see 2-3 inches of rain over the next 7 days, finally making an impact on drought conditions.
