Abbatacola: Zambrano Leads Cubs To Victory
By Matt Abbatacola-
CHICAGO (CBS) The story before the game was how would Carlos Zambrano react to his welcome at U.S. Cellular Field. It was a shaky start for the right-hander, but he settled down and went eight innings allowing three runs on seven hits.
The White Sox got on the scoreboard in the first inning against Zambrano. Juan Pierre singled to start the game and advanced to second base on an Omar Vizquel ground out. He would score on a Carlos Quentin single. Paul Konerko homered for the 20th time this season - setting a club record - his 12th season with 20 or more homers. The White Sox would take a 3-0 lead after one inning.
The Cubs scored two runs in the third inning on a 2-out single by Starlin Castro. The shortstop would then tie the game at three with his second homer of the season, leading off the sixth. In the same inning, after a single by Blake DeWitt and a walk to Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Pena would hit his 12th homer of the season to give the Cubs a 6-3 lead.
Ozzie Guillen was ejected in the sixth inning after he left the dugout to argue a strikeout on Alexei Ramirez.
The Cubs took game one 6-3 ... Tuesday night, Matt Garza opposes Mark Buehrle.
