Quade: 'I'm Going To Be Back'

CHICAGO (WSCR) Mike Quade met with the Chicago media before Wednesday's home finale -- possibly for the last time as the Cubs manager.
When asked if he thought about this being his last game at Wrigley as the Cubs' skipper, he said: "No, haven't thought about it, don't think about it, don't believe it. Now, let's play ball."
That sounds overly optimistic even for Quade, a.k.a. Captain Positive.
Wanna play two, Captain?
He was asked why he doesn't think about it.
"Why would I? We're gonna play today and I'm going to be back. That's the way I look at things. There's no other way to look at it. Why would I look at it any other way. So, that's it."
What about the change in the front office?
"Nothing I can do about that", replied Quade. "I plan to be back and I plan to do a good job next year."
He sounds very confident or very crazy. He must have talked to Tom Ricketts about his future.
"No, if they make a decision in a different direction, so be it."
How would Quade grade the job that he's done?
"I'm disappointed in the record. I'm not disappointed in myself at all. No one escapes blame and you understand that going in, but I also look at it as a realist and try to think about the things I could or couldn't control."
There were many issues with the 2011 Cubs that were out of Quade's control, but did he do a good job with the things that he could control? Enough to at least warrant another year in charge? Many Cubs' fans would say no.
"I like doing this and I think I'm good at doing it and that's the way I look at things," Quade said.
The question is, how does Tom Ricketts look at things? Better yet, is he the right guy to be looking at "things"?
