Abbatacola: Cubs Playing Better But With Same Results

CHICAGO (CBS) The Cubs have been playing better baseball as a team. It's not too much of a surprise since their pitching has become more consistent and their free agent signing in the off-season, Carlos Pena, is as hot as anyone in baseball.
Doug Davis battled again and gave his team a chance to win. He has pitched well for Mike Quade in his last three starts. Unfortunately, he took another loss, dropping his record to 1-6 since joining the Cubs. Davis is 0-4 in his last four starts against the White Sox.
Pena hit his 14th homer of the season and hit a home run in each game against the White Sox. He has 13 RBI in his last 19 games against the White Sox.
Starlin Castro extended his hitting streak to seven games (.500, 14-28) He also recorded his 30th mulit-hit game this season.
Alfonso Soriano stole his first base since August of last year.
The Cubs have lost their last five road series and eight of their last 10 overall. If Quade hopes for his team to get to .500 by the All-Star break, they need to go 15-1 over their next 16 games.
The Cubs have an off day before beginning a series in Kansas City on Friday. Taking the mound for Chicago will be Dempster, Zambrano, and Randy Wells.
