Abbatacola: Cubs' Pitching Is The Problem
By Matt Abbatacola-
CHICAGO (CBS) There are many reasons to explain the Cubs' 32-47 record. The main reason in this lost season is the Cubs' starting pitching.
After the game one loss to the Giants 13-7, Mike Quade said, "As a general rule, I just think that your big guys kinda do what they're supposed to do at the top end and they keep your bullpen fresher and give you opportunities for whatever you need out of the four and five guys."
Ryan Dempster 5-6 5.31
Carlos Zambrano 6-4 4.38
Matt Garza 4-6 4.07
Randy Wells 1-2 6.25
Doug Davis 1-7 6.50
James Russell 0-5 9.33
Casey Coleman 2-4 7.32
Rodrigo Lopez 0-0 11.57
Davis gave up a career-high tying 10 earned runs on twelve hits over 4.1 innings pitched.
Carlos Pena hit his 17th homer on the season - he has hit 8 home runs in his last 12 games.
Satrlin Castro went 0-for-5 - ending his career-high hitting streak at 11 games.
