Aaron Rodgers Says Presnap Smoking Signal Is Tribute To The Jay Cutler Meme
(CBS) One of the funnier places on the Internet has been and remains the Smokin' Jay Cutler site that produces various memes by adding a cigarette to photos of the Bears quarterback. It's a good way to waste 10 minutes on a slow day at work, for sure.
Well, now we have a new twist. In his radio show on Tuesday, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was asked about one of his presnap hand signals from Sunday in which he appears to mimic smoking a cigarette. What did it mean and what were its origins?
"That was just a tribute to Jay Cutler, because there's that 'Smoking Jay' web site," Rodgers responded, according to The Big Lead. "So I was just doing a tribute to him."
Was Rodgers completely serious about that? It's hard to tell (click here to hear the audio yourself), but according to The Big Lead, Rodgers' signals like that date back to last season. There seems to be a hint of sarcasm and easiness in his response as well.
For what it's worth, Rodgers and Cutler have a friendly relationship. Check out the Vine below, courtesy of Ricky O'Donnell at SB Nation.
