(WBBM/CBS) - Rain, sleet, wet snow. Yes, it's November in Chicago and those words all are in the forecast for Wednesday, "get away" day for Thanksgiving travelers.
The CBS 2 weather forecast calls for a cloudy, breezy and cold day with rain mixed with some sleet and wet snow overspreading the area in the afternoon, then become all rain late. Today's chance of precipitation: 80 percent.
In the Loop early Wednesday afternoon, conditions were cloudy, but calm. But a viewer reported wind just to the northeast in Streeterville that was so severe that she was knocked to the ground twice.
In Skokie, snow and sleet were falling as of around 1 p.m.
None of this is a huge surprise. As the National Weather Service put it: "Today will be a day of many forms of precipitation." Little to no ice accumulation is expected, the service said.
Look for a high of 38 degrees.
Tonight, expect periods of rain and temperatures holding nearly steady.
North-central Illinois will also see fog and freezing drizzle after midnight, the National Weather Service said.
On Thanksgiving Day, the forecast calls for breezy and cold conditions with plenty of clouds and a stray shower early, perhaps a flurry late. Look for a high of 39 early, though temperatures will fall through the 30s in the afternoon.
And on Friday, there's no precipitation in the Day-After-Thanksgiving shopping forecast. You'll need a winter coat. Look for a high temperature around 30 to 34 degrees.
The National Weather Service reminds drivers to be alert of changing weather conditions.
