A Week Later, No Arrests In Shootings Of NW Indiana Girls
EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (CBS) – Anti-violence demonstrators gathered Monday in the Northwest Indiana city where two girls were struck by bullets last week as they played video games – a crime for which there are still no suspects.
A few dozen people marched in East Chicago, Ind. to bring attention to the plight of pre-teen cousins Celena and Arianna Quiroz.
One FBI official says the community's latest outcry needs to go further.
"In law enforcement, we cannot work miracles," FBI Supervisory Senior Resident Agent Robert Ramsey tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards.
Celena and Arianna were playing in the living room last Tuesday night when they were each shot in the chest. Arianna remains hospitalized.
Authorities have no solid leads in the case, and neighbors declined to go on-camera Monday.
Ramsey says there likely are witnesses who could provide information to police.
"We need them to step forward and make a phone call," he said.
In 2011 in Chicago, 285 kids under the age of 16 were shot – only 15 cases were closed.
