A Dog, The New Weapon To Fight Child Pornography In Will County

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Will County state's attorney has a new weapon to fight child pornography — a black Labrador named Cache.

Though most crime-fighting dogs are known for sniffing out bombs or drugs, Cache, has another set of very unique skills — he has been specially trained to detect hidden electronic devices.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow purchased Cache, the first electronic detection dog in Illinois, from Jordan Detection K-9 in Greenfield, Indiana, according to a statement from Glasgow's office.

Cache was trained by Todd Jordan, an Indiana firefighter who pioneered the training of dogs to detect a proprietary chemical used in SD cards, thumb drives and other electronic devices that store digital content, according to the statement.

Jordan's first electronic detection dog became famous for sniffing out electronic devices hidden inside former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle's Indiana home.

Cache, as well as his training and dog supplies, was bought with funds seized from criminal activities. He will serve in the High Technology Crimes Unit that tracks down and prosecutes child pornographers.

The 75-pound dog won't be lonely at work — the state's attorney's office also employs four therapy dogs: Jackson, Maley, Kiwi and Angus.

"I have always loved dogs. Every night when I come home from work, they are there to greet me without fail. They are always there to provide unconditional love without request," Glasgow said in the statement.

"The dogs that work in my office have been embraced by my staff as well as all those who visit. They also provide important therapeutic services to crime victims and other individuals who struggle with addictions and mental health issues," Glasgow said.
