90-Degree Heat, High Humidity For Afternoon, Possible Storms For Some

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Yet again, the stifling heat is building in Chicago, with an afternoon of 90-degree heat and increasing humidity on tap.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Mary Kay Kleist says it was 86 at the lakefront, 82 at O'Hare International Airport, and 84 at Midway Airport at 11:20 a.m.

The high is expected to climb to 90 Thursday, and with considerably more humidity in the atmosphere than was seen on Wednesday.

There is a 20 percent chance of popup thunderstorms – mostly for the far northern suburbs near the Wisconsin state line – as a high-pressure system bears down from the north, but never actually makes it as far south as the Chicago area.

The overnight low is 73 with partly cloudy skies, and on Friday, the high climbs to 92.

On Saturday, the high is 94, and the heat index will make it feel like a boiling 105. Anyone attending Lollapalooza will be well-advised to bring a water bottle.

There is a 30 percent chance of a late-day thunderstorm on Saturday, and a chance for storms in the overnight hours. On Sunday, the temperature will moderate to 82 degrees, followed by 83 on Monday, 87 on Tuesday, and 88 on Wednesday.
