85-Year-Old Woman Dies After Hit And Run

CHICAGO (CBS)-- Chicago Police say they are looking for the hit-and-run driver who killed an 85-year-old woman on the West Side early Sunday morning.
The Cook County Medical Examiner says 85-year-old Bessie Manning was pronounced dead at 7:52 a.m. Sunday at Mt. Sinai Hospital– 4 1/2 hours after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in the 5600 block of West Division Street.
"She had fractures in her face, fractures in her legs. She had swelling on both sides of the brain. She also had bleeding on both sides of the brain," said her grandson, Melvin Manning.
Bessie Manning's family is urging the driver to turn himself in.

"I'd like to ask God to please forgive those people. And actually, if they'd like to have a conscience and want to bring themselves forward to deal with this, that would be nice as well," Melvin said. "If they feel like they can live with things like this, more power to them."
Melvin Manning said his grandmother grew up in Mississippi and moved to Chicago decades ago.
He said she suffered from some kind of dementia and wandered away from the senior apartments that she'd moved into two weeks ago with her sister.
She was hit just over a mile from those apartments.
