'83 Jackie Robinson West Team Proud Of Their Modern-Day Counterparts
(CBS) – There is a lot of attention being heaped on the 2014 Jackie Robinson West baseball team from Chicago playing in the Little League World Series.
But 31 years ago, another JRW team made the trip to Pennsylvania.
CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker caught up with some of those players.
You can hear the crowd roar when Mac Irvin hit a home run, sending fans scrambling for a souvenir in the stands as he trotted around the bases back in 1983.
He was there at the Chicago viewing party this week, supporting the 2014 team.
The players – all 40-something now, some sporting 1983 souvenirs -- are like kids again, watching their 2014 counterparts compete.
The 2014 team is off to a better start than the '83 guys, who lost their first game. But the relative old-timers still had a blast in Pennsylvania 31 years ago.
The earlier team went 2-1 in the Little League World Series -- not good enough for the championship but definitely making the kids come away feeling like winners and with a lifetime of memories.
