7-Year-Old Boy Sexually Assaulted At Southwest Side Restaurant

CHICAGO (CBS/STMW) -- A 7-year-old boy was sexually assaulted when he went to the restroom alone at a restaurant Saturday in the Little Village neighborhood.

The boy and his family were eating dinner at Great China Buffet at 2531 W. Cermak Rd. when the little boy went to the restroom and was sexually assaulted, according to a community alert issued Tuesday by Chicago Police.

Police describe the suspect as a Spanish-speaking Hispanic man between 25 and 40 years old, with light skin and a black mustache. He has "numerous" tattoos on both arms, including a knife with two lines underneath and the word "QUE," and another of an animal, possibly a dog.

The suspect was wearing a black baseball cap and a blue or green long-sleeve shirt with rolled-up sleeves, and fled in a small green vehicle after the attack, police said.

Customers eating at the buffet Wednesday night were just hearing about the case.

"I mean it's a restaurant. You wouldn't expect it to happen in a restaurant," said Nancy Rodriguez.

"That's terrible because I actually eat there," said Yolanda Velasquez.

Police advise parents to escort children to restrooms in public places, be on alert for strangers or suspicious vehicles and to instruct children to report suspicious activity to an adult immediately.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the assault is asked to call Special Investigations Unit detectives at (312) 492-3810.
