7 Shot, Wounded In Chicago Overnight, Including 5 In One Incident
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood overnight left five people wounded, including two teenage girls who were hit by errant bullets.
Police say two men, ages 21 and 22, along with a 15-year-old boy, were standing on the sidewalk in the 8300 block of South Muskegon Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Monday when three males walked up and started shooting at them, police said.
All three were shot, but two teen girls who were sitting on a nearby porch and didn't see the shooters were also struck by gunfire, police said.
Bullets grazed a 14-year-old girl in the leg, while a 17-year-old girl suffered a graze wound to the arm, police said. Both were reported in good condition and refused medical treatment.
The 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg and was reported in good condition at South Shore Hospital, police said. One man, 21, was shot in the abdomen and leg, and was in stable condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The older man was shot in the leg and grazed in the ankle, and was in good condition at Advocate Trinity Hospital, police said.
Also overnight, a 20-year-old man was shot and wounded in the 4700 block of North Sheridan Road, in the Uptown neighborhood.
The man was wounded in the left leg in the shooting at 8 p.m. Monday, police said.
In a correspondence posted by the Uptown Update blog, Ald. James Cappleman (46th) said he had spoken with the new commander of the Town Hall District and had gone by the scene, and that police have "really good camera footage that will assist us with getting an arrest made."
Another man was shot and wounded around 11:50 p.m. Monday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The 23-year-old man was standing in the 1100 block of North Keystone Avenue when a male gunman exited a van and shot him, police said. The shooter then fled.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, police said.
No one was in custody Tuesday morning in any of the shootings.
