7 Injured In I-294 Crash

ROSEMONT, Ill. (STMW) - Seven people were injured Sunday during an auto accident on the Tri-State Tollway in northwest suburban Rosemont.
The auto accident occurred about 3:52 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) at the Irving Park Road Toll Plaza, Illinois State Police District 15 Master Sergeant Susan Ewald said.
John Ryan, 62, of Libertyville was driving a silver 2009 Toyota vehicle when he failed to stop at the toll plaza and struck the rear of a silver 2004 Ford Expedition sports utility vehicle, Ewald said.
Octavio Cervantes, 41, of Harvey--the driver of the SUV-- was paying a toll when the vehicle was struck, Ewald said. His wife, Lydia, 36, and four children, all under the age of 15, were also in the vehicle.
Cervantes, his wife and four children suffered minor injuries and were taken to Resurrection Medical Center with minor injuries.
Ryan, the only occupant of the 2009 Toyota, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with minor injuries.
Ryan was suffering from a medical emergency at the time of the accident, Ewald said.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
The Rosemont, Des Plaines, and Schiller Park fire departments assisted with the accident.
Illinois State Police are investigating.
