7 Injured In Gun Violence Since Thursday Night
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least seven people were injured in shootings across the city Thursday night and early Friday. A Chicago Police officer also shot a teen who ran from officers during a street stop early Friday in the Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood.
The teenager was seriously injured Thursday night in a shooting in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side. He was standing outside in the 100 block of West 73rd Street about 8:50 p.m. Thursday when a gunman walked up and opened fire, police said. He was shot in the abdomen, finger and face and was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
About 1:30 a.m. Friday, a 34-year-old man was shot in the right foot while standing inside a club in the 10700 block of South Torrence Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood when shots were fired outside, police said. He was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in good condition.
About 1:10 a.m. Friday, a man was shot after an argument at a party in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, police said. The 25-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk in the 500 block of East 75th Street at 1:10 a.m. when he was shot in the left shoulder, arm, back and the right side of his body. He was taken by a relative to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, but was transferred in serious condition to Stroger.
A 57-year-old man was shot about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the Englewood neighborhood. He was standing in a park in the 1200 block of West 64th Street when shots were fired, according to police. The man was shot in the back/shoulder area and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital.
Two people were wounded in a shooting about 8:25 p.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of East 71st Place in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side, police said. A 23-year-old man was shot in the arm and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A 17-year-old boy was shot twice in the leg and treated at Jackson Park Hospital.
About 8:15 p.m. Thursday, a 23-year man suffered a graze wound in his right calf in the 5000 block of South King Drive in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side, police said. Hospital and condition information was not immediately known.
In addition to the seven people wounded in overnight gun violence, a Chicago Police officer shot a teen who ran from officers during a street stop early Friday in the Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood, authorities said.
About 12:30 a.m. Friday, officers were patrolling in the 4400 block of North Mulligan Avenue when they saw three young men in an alley, police News Affairs said in a statement. The officers went to talk to the young men and asked for identification, Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said. One of the young men said he didn't have an ID and took off running.
The officers chased him and the teen tried to jump a fence, police said. The officer followed the suspect into a gangway and was confronted by the suspect swinging a board from the fence, police said. The officer ordered him to drop the board, and the suspect advanced aggressively toward the officer, police said. The officer opened fire, striking the suspect.
The suspect, thought to be 16, was struck twice and taken in good condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Camden said. No officers were injured and the four-foot board was recovered at the scene.
The Independent Police Review Authority and Area North detectives are investigating.
