7 Dogs, 17 Cats, 20 Birds Removed From Condo
PARK RIDGE, Ill. (STMW) - Police in northwest suburban Park Ridge and members of the city's Public Works Department removed a large number of animals from a condominium unit Nov. 4 after neighbors reportedly complained of an unpleasant odor.
Seven dogs, 17 cats and more than 20 birds were found inside a residence in the Park Ridge Pointe condominium complex on the 1700 block of Pavilion Way, said Police Cmdr. Lou Jogmen.
According to the police report animal feces and urine were found all over the female resident's condo unit and there did not appear to be adequate food or water for the many animals housed there, Jogmen said.
The animals were taken to an animal hospital for medical evaluations, he said. Their current whereabouts could not immediately be verified.
The condo unit was declared uninhabitable by the Park Ridge Environmental Health Department, Jogmen said. It will need to be cleaned up and inspected before the resident can move back.
Under the Park Ridge Municipal Code residents can keep no more than three cats or three dogs in their homes. The Municipal Code also dictates the proper treatment of pets, as does the Illinois Humane Care for Animals Act and the Illinois Animal Welfare Act.
