$660 Million Capital Program Brings Additions, Upgrades To Schools
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel spent the day Sunday touting his multi-million dollar capital school program.
As WBBM Newsradio's Lisa Fielding reports, the mayo visited Sauganash Elementary School, 6040 N. Kilpatrick Ave., and Nathan Hale Elementary School, 6140 S. Melvina Ave.

He says the $660 million project is the largest investment than any city has made in its schools, and will make classrooms more modern.
"We all learned with a chalkboard. They have the capacity for modernization, for basically a computer screen up on what used to be where the chalkboard is," Emanuel said, "and the capacity for technology that's interactive with children will help kids today learn."
Recently, Sauganash Elementary opened a $10.5 million addition to relieve overcrowding, which was paid for by the capital program. Hale is set to receive $15 million from the program for a similar annex.
The program has funds allotted for a variety of physical building upgrades, as well as for new departments to support education.
