60 Firefighters Battle Blaze In West Side Mosque
CHICAGO (CBS) - More than 60 firefighters are battling a blaze in a mosque in the West Side Garfield Park neighborhood.
A still-and-box alarm for the fire at 4235 W. Madison St. was called just before 1 p.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.
Minister Louis Farrakhan's Muhammad Westside Mosque is listed at the address.
The building is a two-story, 25-foot by 75-foot structure, Rosado said. It was not immediately known if the building is occupied.
The fire was burning on the first and second stories of the mosque, fire officials said.
Sixty firefighters with more than 20 pieces of equipment continue to battle the blaze Monday afternoon, Rosado said.
No injuries have been reported and no hospital transports have been made.
The fire was struck out about 11:35 a.m. but firefighters remained at the scene, unconfirmed fire dispatch reports indicated.
