6 Displaced In Englewood Fire
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Six people were forced from their homes overnight when a fire broke out in the Englewood neighborhood.
Authorities say a three-story home went up in flames near 56th and Laflin streets overnight. The flames started in the back of the house, and quickly burned through the attic, sending several residents scrambling for safety.
"My neighbors came and woke me up. I was in bed, but my neighbors down the street, about 5500 on my block, came and knocked on my door and told me there was a fire behind my house," a woman said.
Meanwhile, authorities found a mattress on fire in an alley nearby. The flames spread to a tree and a fence, but firefighters were able to contain it.
There was no word as of early Tuesday morning whether either of the fires was suspicious.
