6 Dead, 22 Wounded Across Chicago In Weekend Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Six people were killed and at least 22 others have been wounded in shootings across the city since Saturday afternoon.
In the most recent fatal shooting, a 33-year-old man was killed in the Austin neighborhood Monday afternoon.
About 3:18 p.m., Monte Tillman was shot in the torso in the 5200 block of West Lake Street, police said. Tillman, of the 1100 block of Thomas Avenue in Forest Park, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 4:26 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Early Monday, a 25-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds, also in the Austin neighborhood.
Officers responding to shots fired in the 5400 block of West Haddon Avenue found Lance Stanton about 1 a.m., authorities said.
Stanton, who lived on the block where he was killed, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:36 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
A 17-year-old boy died Sunday night, a day after he was shot Saturday in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side.
Dashawn Johnson was shot in the jaw at 7:25 p.m. Saturday in the 9300 block of South Ada Street, authorities said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner's office.
A 46-year-old man was killed and a 17-year-old boy was injured in a shooting Sunday night in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
At 8:06 p.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired saw an armed man near West Maypole and North Homan avenues, police said. A foot chase ensued and shots were fired by the officers, but no one was struck, police said.
Police found Aaron Feazell, 46, and the teenager in the 3300 block of West Maypole Avenue, authorities said said. Feazell, of the 1400 block of South 10th Street in Maywood, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:25 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
The 17-year-old was shot in both legs and his hand and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, Corteze Reed, 23, was shot in the chest in the 900 block of West Windsor Avenue in Uptown, police said. Reed, of the 1900 block of West Chase Avenue, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
In the weekend's first shooting, Kenneth Anthony, 31, was killed and and a 21-year-old man was injured in the Englewood neighborhood. They were standing in the 6900 block of South Emerald Avenue about 3:42 p.m. Saturday when a suspect emerged from an alley and opened fire, police said.
Anthony, of the 400 block of West 66th Place, was shot in the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:44 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office. The 21-year-old was shot in his right arm and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
In the most recent nonfatal shooting, a man was shot in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood.
The 34-year-old was standing in a doorway in the 5100 block of West Parker Avenue at 12 a.m. Tuesday when somebody fired from the street and shot him in the arm, police said. He was taken to Presence Resurrection Medical Center in good condition.
The man is a self-admitted gang member, according to police.
Three hours earlier, a man was shot in the Austin neighborhood.
About 9:10 p.m. Monday, the 31-year-old was walking down the street in the 5800 block of West Potomac Avenue when a minivan pulled up alongside and someone from in the van opened fire, police said.
The man was shot in the forearm and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.
At least 18 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since Saturday afternoon, and a man allegedly wielding a knife was shot and killed by a Chicago Police officer Saturday night in Englewood.
Officers responded to an emergency assistance call from the fire department about 11:25 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Racine Avenue after paramedics were confronted by a man with a knife, police said.
Michael Myers, 62, charged at police officers with the knife, and an officer shot him, police said.
Myers, of the 11300 block of South Indiana Avenue, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 12:08 a.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner's office.
