$500K Bond For Teen Charged With Firing At Cops
CHICAGO (STMW) - A West Side teen accused of exchanging gunfire with Chicago Police Tuesday night was ordered held on $500,000 bond on Thursday.
Alante Hands, 17, is charged with one count of attempted murder and two counts of attempted armed robbery, according to police.
Bond for Hands was set at $500,000 on Thursday and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 29, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
The incident occurred about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of West Maypole Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.
Officers were patrolling the "high crime" area when they saw a man who was on foot and armed with a revolver.
"When they approached, the offender opened fire and they (the officers) returned fire,'' Gaines said.
The suspect got into a vehicle being driven by a second suspect and tried to drive away. Police caught up with them and they were arrested but the 21-year-old driver was later released without being charged.
Gaines said no one was hurt during the incident.
The revolver was recovered and police have the vehicle, according to police.
Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
