NORTHBROOK, Ill. (STMW) - At least five people were hurt after a vehicle lost control on the Tri-State Tollway during the Tuesday evening rush hour, flipping three times and barreling into a fence and a tree.
The one-vehicle crash was reported about 5:25 p.m. in the southbound lanes of tollway (I-294) near mile marker 50, according to an Illinois State Police Tollway District sergeant.
That location is about a mile north of the Willow Road exit near north suburban Northbrook, maps show.
The vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed when it attempted to change lanes, lost control and rolled over three times, the sergeant said. The vehicle also took out 40 feet of fence and barbed wire and struck a tree when it crashed, he said.
Five occupants of the vehicle were taken to area hospitals, but none of their injuries were life-threatening, the sergeant said. A citation for the wreck was issued but the nature of the citation was not immediately known early Wednesday.
State Police are investigating.
