6 Dead, 21 Wounded In Weekend Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Six people are dead -- including a 15-year-old boy -- and at least 21 other people have been injured in shootings across Chicago since Friday night, police said.
Most recently, a man was shot to death early Monday in the North Austin neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said.
The 46-year-old was found with a single gunshot wound to the head about 4 a.m. in an alley in the 4800 block of West Concord Place, police said.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death.
About 7:20 p.m. Sunday, two men were shot -- one fatally -- in the South Side Hyde Park neighborhood.
The men, ages 34 and 41, were in the 5600 block of South Everett Avenue about 7:20 p.m. when someone walked up and opened fire, police said.
Ovadiyah Chandler, 34, was shot twice in the back of the head and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:20 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner's office. Chandler's home address was not immediately known.
The other man was shot in the arm and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was listed in "stable" condition, police said.
Both men are documented gang members, police said.
Sunday morning, a male was found shot and killed in a Roseland neighborhood gangway on the Far South Side.
The unidentified male, thought to be in his 20s, was found about 7:40 a.m. in the 11100 block of South Lowe Avenue, according to police and the medical examiner's office. He had a gunshot wound to the chest and was dead when officers arrived at the scene, police said.
Earlier Sunday, a man was found shot to death in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
Stanley Levy, 23, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his body at 3:05 a.m. in the 7200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, according to police and the medical examiner's office.
Levy, who lived in the 100 block of West 126th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:24 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
About 10 p.m. Saturday, a teenage boy was killed one block from his home and another boy was wounded in a Roseland neighborhood shooting.
The two boys, 15 and 16, were shot while they standing on a corner in the 100 block of West 109th Street, when a vehicle pulled up, and several people got out and opened fire, police said.
The 15-year-old boy, identified as Dekarlos Scott, of the 100 block of West 110th Street, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:25 p.m., officials said.
The 16-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder and taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was listed in "stable" condition, police said.
The first fatal shooting of the weekend happened Saturday afternoon in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the South Side.
Taurus Williams, 23, was near the intersection of 111th Street and South Homewood Avenue at 4:44 p.m. when he was shot in the chest, authorities said.
Two groups of people were at the location when shots were heard, police said. People ran in different directions and the man was left on the ground.
Williams, of the 300 block of West 100th Street, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 5:37 p.m., authorities said.
The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred early Monday in West Englewood.
A 32-year-old man was sitting on a porch about 12:40 a.m. near 57th Street and Hermitage Avenue, when someone fired shots in his direction and he was struck in the shoulder, police said. He was taken in "stable" condition to Stroger Hospital.
About an hour earlier, a man was injured in another West Englewood neighborhood shooting.
The man, 32, was standing on the sidewalk about 11:50 p.m. Sunday in the 6600 block of South Seeley Avenue when he heard shots ring out and realized he had been shot, police said. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to both legs and had a friend take him to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in "stable" condition. Police said the man is a documented gang member.
About 3:50 p.m. Sunday, two men, 42 and 47, were shot in the 2400 block of East 75th Street in the South Shore neighborhood, police said. The 47-year-old was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the 42-year-old was taken to Christ Medical Center, police said. Their conditions were not immediately known.
A 16-year-old was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood Sunday afternoon.
The teen was in the 2900 block of East 88th Street about 2:15 p.m. when he was shot in the left leg, police said. He was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was listed in "stable" condition. The teen is a documented gang member, a police source said.
About 12:30 p.m., a man was critically wounded after he was shot in Chicago Lawn on the Southwest Side.
The 34-year-old was in the 6900 block of South Talman Avenue when he was shot multiple times, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center.
At least 13 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night.
