5 Children Hurt In School Bus Accident
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 13-year-old girl suffered minor injuries, and four other children were taken to hospitals, after the school bus they were riding on Wednesday morning struck a sport-utility vehicle on the Bishop Ford Freeway.
About 7:45 p.m., the school bus, with 30 children onboard, was southbound in the left lane of the Bishop Ford near 103rd Street when the driver lost control and struck an SUV, according to an Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper.
A 13-year-old girl suffered abrasions to her head and four other children complained of minor injuries, the trooper said. The five children were taken to Trinity, Roseland and Little Company of Mary hospitals, according to the trooper.
Because the school bus, which was not turned around, was blocking some lanes of the Bishop Ford, all lanes of southbound traffic were shut down for about 10 minutes until the two vehicles were moved out of the way, the trooper said.
As of about 10 a.m. state police had no information on citations being issued.
