43 To Go….Cubs lose again
Lou Piniella was feeling a bit queezie in the dugout last night. Why? No, he wasn't ill per se but he was feeling sick watching his young bull pen implode again. After the young hurlers allowed 4 runs over the final 2 innings, Piniella bemoaned the fact that none of the young pitchers he brings in from the pen have done a good job. But don't worry Lou, there's only 43 more games to go.
Also, once again, the Cubs failed to come through with any timely hitting. They left the bases loaded in the first and two more on in the 2nd. Then the Padres who failed to score in the first four innings scored in every inning there after. San Diego went on to win 9-5 and it goes to show that expectations sometimes mean zippo. There wasn't one so called expert who picked the Padres to have a good year yet here they are with a 4 game lead in the NL West.
As for the Cubs, their season has been over almost from the start. We are just about 120 games into this campaign and you are hard pressed to remember this team having any winning streak of note. And it wont get much, if any better, because you'll be seeing a lot of young kids from here on out and that usually translates into a lot of losses.
