4 Teens Wounded In 2 Separate Shootings Overnight
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Four teens were recovering in the hospital Thursday morning, after two separate shootings overnight.
CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports, in both shootings, the victims were walking down the street when someone opened fire.
In the most recent shooting, a 16-year-old boy and his 15-year-old girlfriend were walking together in the 400 block of East 71st Street in the Park Manor neighborhood – near a gas station – when a gunman walked out of an alley and opened fire. Both teens were shot, along with a 49-year-old man.
The boy, 16-year-old Leroy Bryant, was walking home from a basketball game at Meyering Park, in the 7100 block of South King Drive, according to his stepmother.
Leroy was in critical condition Thursday morning at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
"He got shot seven times. One in the chest, four in the stomach, and two on the back. But out of seven shots, he's recovering very well," his stepmother Tequila Robinson said.
Leroy's girlfriend was with was shot in the leg, and was being treated at the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital. Her condition was described only as "stable."
The 49-year-old man was shot in the groin, but was able to walk to a hospital on his own.
An hour before that shooting, two 15-year-old boys were in an alley in the 3800 block of South Vincennes Avenue, when they heard gunfire, police said.
One of the boys was shot in the leg, and a bullet grazed the other boy's shoulder. They were both taken to hospitals, and their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
No one was in custody for either shooting as of early Thursday morning.
