4 Police Officers Hurt In Squad Car Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Four Chicago Police officers were hospitalized Monday morning after a crash involving two police vehicles in the Chatham neighborhood.
The crash happened near 87th Street and King Drive around 8:40 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say the officers were responding to a call of a robbery when they crashed.
Two squad cars collided, and four officers were hurt. Two of injured officers were from the Gresham district and the other two were from the South Chicago district, police said.
One of the officers was taken in serious to critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and the other three were taken in fair condition to Advocate Trinity Hospital, authorities said.
A third car was also involved. The woman who was driving that car was not injured, police said.
No one suffered life-threatening injuries.
Just hours earlier at the same location, neighbors were passing out flyers in search of a killer, who shot and killed a woman and two men in a car parked in front of a strip mall nearby. A 17-year-old boy is being held in the shooting that killed young mother Chanda Thompson, Cortez Champion, and an unidentified man in front of A Piece Of Cake Bakery, 400 E. 87th St., around 5 p.m. Saturday.
