DCFS Investigating After 4 Kids Hospitalized Following Domestic Disturbance
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of abuse and neglect after four children were hospitalized after police responded to a domestic disturbance in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side on Tuesday night.
Two adults were being questioned by police in relation to the incident.
Police responded to complaints of a disturbance at a home in the 8200 block of South Ellis Avenue about 9 p.m., according to News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. There, police found three girls and a boy between 6 months and 4 years of age -- two of whom had visible bruising on their bodies.
The bruised children were taken to Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago Hospitals in "stable" condition, Greer said. The other children showed no signs of bruising but were taken to the hospital for examination.
The children's mother, and a man who is the father of one of the children, were questioned by Area South detectives, though no charges had been filed as of late Wednesday morning, police said.
DCFS is investigating allegations of abuse against the mother's boyfriend and allegations of neglect against the mother, agency spokesman Jimmie Whitelow said. DCFS has had no prior contact with the family.
