4 Homes Damaged In Early Sunday Blaze
CHICAGO (STMW) - Four Englewood buildings were damaged in an early Sunday fire on the South Side.
The fire started about 1 a.m. in a 1 ½-story frame house at 6107 S. Peoria St., Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said.
The fire spread to three neighboring buildings and the blaze was elevated to a still-and-box alarm then a two-alarm blaze because of the volume of fire, MacGregor said.
The building where the fire started and a neighboring 1 ½-story brick home at 6109 S. Peoria St. appeared to be unoccupied, MacGregor said.
A three-story frame house at 6115 S. Peoria St. suffered "significant" damage and the siding near the top of a two-story frame home at 6117 S. Peoria St. was damaged, MacGregor said. Both of those buildings were occupied.
Nobody was injured, MacGregor said. A warming bus and city human service workers were called to the scene to help residents in the damaged buildings who will probably be displaced.
The fire was controlled about 1:55 a.m., but crews remained on the scene, MacGregor said. Commonwealth Edison workers were also working on power issues early Sunday.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
