5 Dead, 21 Wounded On 4th Of July, Morning Afterward

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Gunfire has taken another deadly toll on the city, leaving at least three people dead and 13 more wounded in shootings on the 4th of July alone.
At least two more victims were killed and eight more were injured in the hours between midnight and 5 a.m. Thursday.
The violence was spread across several neighborhoods, predominantly on the South and West sides.
The first fatality occurred in broad daylight, around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Robert Snipes, 31, was shot in the arm and the back during an argument with another man in the 1700 block of North Pulaski Road, on the cusp of the Logan Square and Hermosa neighborhoods.
Snipes, of the 200 block of North Kostner Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died.
At 11:20 p.m., as the crackle of fireworks was dying down, a 35-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in the 100 block of East 68th Street in the Park Manor neighborhood, according to police News Affairs.
Police said the man was shot during an attempted robbery. He was identified as Antonio Givan, 35, of the 6900 block of South Emerald Avenue, was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The man's name was not immediately available early Thursday.
And around 11:22 p.m., a 27-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wounds to the head and chest in the 1500 block of West 78th Street in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood, authorities said. The man was identified as Corey Parker, who lived around the corner in the 7800 block of South Laflin Street.
Neighbors were overcome with grief upon hearing about the deadly shooting.
Among the 13 wounded in separate shootings throughout the city was a 32-year-old man shot in the abdomen at Washington Park.
Police said the shooting took place in the 5500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue about 9:32 p.m. Wednesday.
Paramedics took the man to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, were he was listed in serious condition, police said.
The violence continued in the wee hours Thursday morning. One man was lost his life in a gang-related drive-by shooting in the 1800 block of West 45th Street, in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
Anthony Suarez, 27, was a passenger in a vehicle when another vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire about 2:05 a.m., according to police News Affairs.
Suarez, of the 4600 block of South Paulina Street, was was shot in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he died, authorities said.
Around 3:40 a.m. Thursday, an 18-year-old man was shot in the chest and killed in the North Austin neighborhood.
The shooting took place in the 4800 block of West St. Paul Avenue, police said. The man was found dead at the scene.
Another man was shot as he drove through the Lathrop Homes public housing development, near Diversey Parkway and the Chicago River's North Branch. The man was behind the wheel as he drove down the 2700 block of North Hoyne Avenue around 1 a.m., and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, police said.
Around 1:45 a.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot and wounded in a gang-related attack in the 3800 block of South Wolcott Avenue, in the McKinley Park neighborhood. He was shot by two men in the right calf and thigh, and was reported in good condition, police said.
Five minutes later, two men were shot in the 4200 block of South Wells Street, near the Dan Ryan Expressway. A 23-year-old man was shot in both thighs and was taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, while a 23-year-old man was shot in the chest and was reported in stable condition at Mercy Hospital Medical Center.
In the North Lawndale neighborhood, a shooting wounded three men around 3 a.m. The men were in the 1300 block of South Millard Avenue when someone fired shots in their direction.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 20 year-old man was shot in the shoulder, police said. Both were taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
An 18-year-old man was also shot in the right leg and taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
And around 4 a.m., a 26-year-old man was grazed by a bullet while he was with a group of people in a park in the 6500 block of South Racine Avenue, in the Englewood neighborhood. He was taken to Provident Hospital of Cook County for treatment and listed in good condition Thursday morning, police said.
