4 Dead, 2 Critically Injured In Little Village Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Four people are dead, and two others are critically injured, after a crash at 31st Street and Kedzie Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood overnight.
As CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez reports, the horrific crash around 1 a.m. Saturday left victims scattered on the street and witnesses in tears.
Six people were inside a sport-utility vehicle when it went out of control and crashed violently into a pole.
One witness says it was mangled and on fire when police yelled it was going to blow up.
"We heard a huge boom so we came. We heard a girl screaming. We thought maybe someone needed help," said the witness, Toni Thomas. "By the time we came, we saw bodies on the ground."
That witness says she couldn't help crying after that. She also thinks someone may have been chasing that car at the time, but that information is not confirmed by police.
The Sun-Times Media Wire says one of the victims who died is identified as Gabriella Sanchez, 19, of the 3000 block of South Kolin Avenue. She was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 1:27 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
The others who died were two women and a man, but their names have not been released, the wire reported.
The surviving victims were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where they were fighting for their lives Saturday morning.
