No Bail For Third Suspect In Pregnant Teen's Murder
DOLTON, Ill. (STMW) -- A 19-year-old south suburban man was ordered held without bond Thursday for his role in the Christmas Day slaying of a 17-year-old pregnant pregnant Chicago girl.
Darius D. Marshall of Dolton surrendered to authorities Monday and is accused of first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery, according to police. His brothers, 16-year-old Anthony Lee and 21-year-old Diante Coakley, are also charged with the urder of Eva Casara.
Casara, who was 26 weeks pregnant with Lee's baby, was shot in the back of the head while prosecutors said she was participating in a botched Christmas Day robbery.
Doctors delivered her infant, Lailani Paris Casara, before Eva Casara died Dec. 26.
Prosecutors have said Casara plotted with Lee, Coakley and Marshall to rob someone in Dolton on Christmas Day.
They said she set out with the brothers when they left their grandmother's house to commit the robbery at 152nd and Dorchester, where Casara made arrangements to meet the intended victim.
Once there, prosecutors said Casara got into a car with the intended victim, his passenger and Coakley. But the robbery victim eventually told Coakley to get out, and he did.
As Coakley tried to open the driver's side door, prosecutors said, the intended victim drove off. Prosecutors said Coakley began shooting at the car even though Casara was in the back seat.
Assistant State's Attorney Tom Driscoll said Thursday that all three suspects fired at the vehicle.
The victim realized Casara was still in the car only when he and his passenger heard gurgling sounds from the back seat. They dumped her in the 1100 block of 152nd, prosecutors said.
