3-Year Extension For Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Blackhawks have given vice president and general manager Stan Bowman a three-year contract extension.
Under the extension, Bowman will be under contract through the end of the 2015-16 season.
Bowman, 38, is now entering his 11th season with the Blackhawks. He is the youngest manager in the NHL, and helped the team capture the 2010 Stanley Cup his first year as general manager in 2010.
"I am very proud of the direction that Stan has taken our hockey operations group in from the moment he took over the role," Blackhawks president and chief executive officer John McDonough said in a news release. "Stan's leadership and collaboration with the entire hockey operations group has developed a strong foundation and gives us the continuity we need as we strive for consistent excellence."
Blackhawk served four seasons as special assistant to the general manager after joining the team in 2001. He became director of Hockey Operations in 2005, and was promoted to assistant general manager in 2007, general manager in 2009, and vice president and general manager in September 2010.
