3 Truck Crashes In 9 Hours On Dan Ryan Expressway
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two trucks collided and jackknifed overnight, spilling fuel and a load of candy, in one of three accidents involving trucks on the expressway in a period of about nine hours.
The semi-trailer truck and the dump truck were wrecked in the crash in the inbound local lanes of the Dan Ryan near 57th Street around 1 a.m., state police said.
One of the trucks was hauling 19,000 pounds of candy, which spilled onto the pavement. Diesel fuel was also spilled.
State Police District Chicago Trooper Ivan Buckaczyk said as of 1:20 a.m., the crash was causing "a traffic nightmare." But all lanes were clear by the time of the morning rush.
About five hours later, another semi truck was involved in an accident about five miles farther north on the Dan Ryan. Around 6:10 a.m., a semi flipped over and hit two cars in the outbound lanes near the Taylor Street-Roosevelt Road exit, state police said.
Around 10 a.m., yet another crash happened on the Dan Ryan, this one involving a dump truck and a car. This crash shut down the outbound local lanes at 63rd Street.
No injuries were reported in the first incident, and information was not available about injuries in the second or third.
