CHICAGO (CBS) - It's already December, but the only snow we've seen so far has been flurries and a dusting on the grass. That changed earlier Saturday morning. Before the snow ends, the Chicago area may get up 4 inches. People living west and south may see as much as 8 inches of accumulation.

Chicago's snow fleet is out in force, working to keep city streets passable. Streets and Sanitation had 175 Snow Trucks patrolling main routes and Lake Shore Drive Saturday morning. Trucks were first deployed to the main route system shortly before midnight.
"Our drivers have done a good job handling the first snow of the season and we will be rotating in fresh drivers in the early afternoon so that fatigue does become a factor," said Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Thomas G. Byrne.

A winter weather advisory has been posted until midnight tonight for the Cook and Lake Counties, until 4 p.m. for Kane, Mchenry, DuPage, Kendall, and Will Counties, and until 4 a.m. Sunday for Lake and Porter Counties in Northwest Indiana.
The snow fall will diminished to flurries in the afternoon. Lake-enhanced snow continued into the evening in some areas from southern Cook County south along the Indiana border. The snow will shift into Northwest Indiana tonight.
Don't look for the snow to be melting anytime soon because next week the other shoe will drop. On Monday, temperatures will turn bitter cold, with highs in the 20s and overnight lows as frigid as 15 degrees.
