3 Shot Within 2 Hours In Woodlawn Neighborhood
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was shot in the leg in the Woodlawn neighborhood Saturday evening, two hours before two other shootings took place -- one of them fatal -- in the same five-block radius.
The 22-year-old man was outside in the 6500 block of South Langley Avenue about 7:30 p.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, police said.
He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his leg, and was treated and released.
The fatal shooting took place about 9:30 p.m. in the 6300 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, where police said they found a 23-year-old man shot in the chest. Paramedics took the man -- identified as Marlon Monroe of the 6200 block of South St. Lawrence Ave. -- to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 10:14 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Less than a mile away from the scene of the first shooting, a 16-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in the 6700 block of South Langley Avenue at 9:45 p.m., police said. The boy was taken in good condition to the University of Chicago Hospitals.
No one was in custody for any of the shooting late Saturday, which are all being investigated by Area Central detectives.
