MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (CBS) -- Two children and an adult were rescued from Lake Michigan Tuesday afternoon as they swam in northwest Indiana.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Nancy Harty reports, lifeguards told everyone to get out of the water near Lighthouse Pier in Michigan City, a state conservation officer told the Northwest Indiana Times.

But conservation officer Gene Davis said some people went farther down the beach.

The newspaper says a 10-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 53-year-old woman struggled with rip currents that pulled them from the shore, and had to be rescued by a lifeguard and other swimmers.

They were all from different families, authorities said.

All three were hospitalized. The woman and girl were taken to St. Anthony Health in Michigan City and were treated and released, while the boy was taken to a hospital in South Bend for more evaluation, the newspaper reported.
