3 Officers Hurt In Crash While Chasing Stolen Car

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three Chicago police officers were rushed to the hospital Wednesday morning, after a crash in their squad car in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports around 2:30 a.m., officers pulled over a car at 69th Street and Anthony Avenue, for having no working tail lights, but when the officers walked up to the vehicle, they noticed the steering column had ben peeled, indicating it was a stolen car.
The driver took off, and the drivers gave chase.
CBS 2's Susanna Song reports, as police gave chase, the officer behind the wheel lost control, and the squad car crashed into a utility pole, and then an apartment building near 72nd Street and Rhodes Avenue.
The three officers were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Two of the officers were treated and released, the third was admitted in serious condition, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
The man who allegedly stole the car was arrested at 72nd and St. Lawrence Avenue, following a brief foot chase. Charges were pending Wednesday morning.
