3 Men Killed In Gary Lived In Same Neighborhood
GARY, Ind. (CBS) -- The third homicide victim in three days lived within blocks of the other two. All three died from gunshot wounds.
Relatives found Gerardo Mejia, 28, critically wounded on the kitchen floor of his Brunswick home in the 200 block of Gerry Street about 9:15 a.m. Mejia died later at The Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus.
Patrolmen Greg Davis and Jeff Hemphill were the first officers to arrive and secure the scene.
There was no sign of forced entry at the victim's home. Lake County crime laboratory detectives processed evidence at the one-story house, which is surrounded by a tall, solid white fence.
The victim's cars carried license plates from Illinois. Police said he had moved recently from the neighboring state. Detective Cpl. Jeff Hornyak interviewed occupants of the house Thursday, but no one was arrested.
Investigators provided no motive for the slaying, the fourth this year.
On Monday night, Terrell Frazier, 21, and Deshalone Williams, 18, were both shot in the head by a man who asked for a ride in Williams' car. The men died Tuesday at the hospital.
Frazier lived in the 300 block of Calhoun Street and Williams lived in the 200 block of Hamlin Street.
Hornyak is investigating Thursday's homicide. Anyone with information can call him at 881-7514.
With four violent deaths, the city's homicide count for 2013 is one more than the same time last year.
