3 Men Charged In String Of Robberies
CHICAGO (STMW) - Three West Side men were charged, after the attempted armed robbery of a Dunkin' Donuts late Wednesday in the Lakeview neighborhood led to a police chase that ended with their arrest.
A fourth suspect remains in custody, but has not been charged.
Authorities approved charges early Thursday for Leviticus Magitt, 17, of the 2300 block of West Monroe Street, who was charged as an adult, Paul Barney, 47, of the 2200 block of West Monroe Street, and Balal Hardaway, 21, of the 2100 block of West Jackson Boulevard, according to police.
Magitt was charged with one count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm, Barney was charged with one count of armed robbery with a firearm, two counts of attempted armed robbery with a firearm and one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding the police and Hardaway was charged with one count of armed robbery with a firearm and two counts of attempted robbery with a firearm, according to police.
The three are expected to appear in bond court later Thursday, according to police.
A fourth suspect remains in custody but has not been charged as of early Thursday.
"He showed a gun and said, 'Hey motherf----- give me the money or I'll shoot you,'" the staffer said.
The employee said he locked the register and ran in the back and called police.
The worker described the gunman as wearing a red cap and a black shirt and the other man was heavy-set.
They fled in a vehicle and police gave chase, south on Ashland Avenue, past North Avenue and continuing onto the southbound Kennedy Expressway, according to police.
They exited the highway on the Near West Side and Alfaro said the chase ended with arrests at Adams Street and Bell Avenue. No one was injured in the incident, Alfaro said.
The suspects were wanted in a rash of robberies of gas stations and Dunkin' Donuts, according to Shakespeare District police Capt. Marc Buslik.
