3 Killed, 8 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Eleven people were shot, three fatally, in attacks across the city on Tuesday, according to Chicago Police.
A person is in custody for the latest homicide, which happened during a domestic fight about 7:20 p.m. in the Eden Green neighborhood on the Far South Side. A 21-year-old woman got into an argument with someone who shot her in the chest in the 300 block of East 130th Street. She was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died, police said. The alleged shooter was arrested and charges were pending Tuesday night.
About 4:45 p.m., a 22-year-old man was gunned down in the East Side neighborhood on the South Side. He was outside in the 9400 block of South Ewing when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been hit in the torso. He died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after the gang-related shooting, police said.
Tuesday's first killing happened just before 7 a.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side. Officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 700 block of West 117th Place found a man thought to be between 18 and 22 on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He was pronounced dead at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island.
The Cook County medical examiner's office has not released any of the victims' names.
The latest nonfatal shooting happened at 11:37 p.m. in the Galewood neighborhood on the Northwest Side. A 36-year-old man was driving in the 1600 block of North Melvina when two males fired shots at him from the sidewalk, police said. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
About an hour earlier, a 21-year-old man was wounded in a Chatham neighborhood shooting on the South Side. He was walking about 10:30 p.m. in the 7600 block of South Cottage Grove when someone in a dark-colored vehicle opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the right leg and later showed up at Jackson Park Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About 7:30 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in the head while driving in the 4600 block of South Greenwood in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood, poice said. He kept driving to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
About 4:15 p.m., someone robbed a 28-year-old man in the 1100 block of South Keeler in Lawndale on the West Side and then shot him in the groin, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
Just before 3 p.m., someone in a white Jeep with Indiana license plates shot a 31-year-old man in the buttocks as he got onto a bus in the 5500 block of South Damen on the South Side, police said. His condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai.
About 2 p.m. in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side, a group of people opened fire on a 26-year-old man at the corner of 71st Street and Rhodes, hitting him in the forearm. He later showed up at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Approximately half an hour before that, a 31-year-old man got into a fight with someone who shot him in the elbow and leg at 1:23 p.m. in the 400 block of West 61st Street in the South Side Englewood neighborhood, police said. His condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai.
A 25-year-old man was shot in the back about 12:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Keeler in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Police did not release the circumstances of the shooting, but his condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai.
On Monday, two men were killed and at least 10 other people, including a 13-year-old boy, were wounded in Chicago shootings.
