3 Killed, 7 Wounded In Thursday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Shootings on Thursday left three people dead and seven others injured on the South and Northwest sides.
In the most recent fatal incident, a man and a woman were killed in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.
About 6:55 p.m., officers responding to a call of a person shot in the 500 block of West 109th found both outside, police said.
William L. Drake, 20, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said. He lived a few blocks away in the 10900 block of South Lowe.
Briona O. White, 22, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was later pronounced dead, authorities said. She lived in the 10100 block of South Carpenter.
A police source said the man was a documented gang member.
A 51-year-old man was killed in Thursday's first shooting, also on the Far South Side.
About 1:20 a.m., officers found the man lying on a sidewalk in 1300 block of West 108th Place with gunshot wounds to the chest and back. He was dead at the scene, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office had not confirmed the fatality.
An officer at the scene said the victim lived on the block where he was found dead, and a neighbor said the man was shot outside his house.
The neighbor, who declined to give his name, said he didn't know the man who died very well but would wave to him almost every day.
"It's crazy," the neighbor said, who spoke outside the home he's owned on the block for eight years. "You speak to someone one day, and then the next day you see him facedown in blood."
Thursday's last nonfatal shooting left two men wounded in Englewood.
The men, 24 and 37, were standing outside in the 6600 block of South Bishop at 11:15 p.m. when someone fired shots from the back seat of a passing light-colored car, police said.
They were both shot in the leg and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where their conditions had stabilized, police said.
Fifteen minutes earlier, a teenager was shot in West Englewood.
The 17-year-old boy was standing on a back porch in the 1800 block of West 64th Street when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the hand, police said. He was taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital, police said.
A man was shot and seriously wounded at 7:25 p.m. in the Montclare neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
The 25-year-old was shot in the chest in the 2700 block of North Oak Park Avenue, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
Another teenage boy was injured in a drive-by shooting at 5:40 p.m. in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood.
The 16-year-old was standing outside in the 4500 block of South Champlain when a light-colored van drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said.
He was shot in the left leg and taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
About an hour earlier, a 34-year-old man was shot in McKinley Park.
The man was standing outside in the 3800 block of South Honore about 4:50 p.m. when the front passenger in a passing dark-colored van fired shots, police said.
He was grazed in the right leg and took himself to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
Thursday's first nonfatal shooting happened about 11:15 a.m. in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.
A 35-year-old woman was standing outside in the 6000 block of South Indiana when a vehicle drove by and someone fired shots, police said.
She was shot in the buttocks and leg, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, police said. Her condition has since stabilized.
