3 Killed, 16 Wounded In Thursday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three men were killed and at least 16 other people were wounded in Thursday shootings on the South Side, including five separate shootings in Englewood, police said.
Thursday night, one man was killed and another was wounded in a Chatham neighborhood shooting, police said.
The two men, ages 20 and 23, were inside a basement apartment about 9:55 p.m. in the 7900 block of South State when someone knocked on the door and asked for the 20-year-old man, police said. When the door was opened, the person fired several shots, before running away northbound.
The 23-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not confirm the fatality early Friday.
The 20-year-old was shot in the leg and shoulder and suffered a graze wound to the head, police said. He was also taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
A police source said the younger man is a documented gang member.
About five minutes earlier, a man was shot to death in the Woodlawn neighborhood, police said.
The 43-year-old man was outside about 9:50 p.m. in the 6600 block of South Champlain when he heard shots ring out and felt pain, police said. He was shot in the abdomen, chest and hip and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality Friday morning.
Earlier Thursday afternoon, another Chatham shooting left one man dead and two others wounded.
The men were standing outside in the 7900 block of South Langley about 3:10 p.m. when a maroon van pulled up, two men got out out and started firing, police said.
Lynell L. Simmons, 30, was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:46 p.m., authorities said. Simmons lived in the 700 block of East 62nd Street, the medical examiner's office said.
A 22-year-old man was shot in the side and taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center, police said. said. A 38-year-old man's condition was stabilized at Stroger with gunshot wounds to the right arm and right foot.
Thursday's most recent shooting happened in the Englewood neighborhood.
A 27-year-old man was standing on a porch in the 700 block of West 59th Street about 11:40 p.m. when someone walked up and fired shots, striking him in the chest, police said. He was taken by a friend to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, where his condition was stabilized.
Ten minutes earlier, a man was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood.
The 23-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle in the 8300 block of South Phillips about 11:30 p.m. when he was shot in the leg, police said. The driver took him to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
About 20 minutes earlier, a man was shot and critically wounded in Englewood.
The 42-year-old was shot in the abdomen and leg by someone during an argument about 11:10 p.m. in the 6100 block of South Green, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.
Three more people were wounded in a separate shooting about two hours earlier in the West Englewood neighborhood.
About 9:10 p.m., two women and a man were standing on the sidewalk in the 6900 block of South Throop when three males walked up and shot them, police said.
One woman, 33, was shot in the leg. The man, 25, was shot twice in the buttocks, police said. They were both taken to Christ Medical Center, where their conditions stabilized.
The other woman, 40, suffered a graze wound to her back and refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.
A man was shot multiple times while sitting in traffic at 8:30 p.m. night in Englewood.
The 24-year-old was sitting in a vehicle in the 5900 block of South Loomis when a blue minivan pulled up, and two males got out, police said. The males then started shooting at the 24-year-old before getting back in their van and driving off, police said. The man was shot multiple times and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
About 45 minutes earlier, a teenage boy and a man were wounded in another Englewood shooting.
The 17-year-old teen and a 19-year-old man were shot at 7:45 p.m. during a possible drive-by near 74th and May streets, police said. Both were taken to Christ Medical Center. The man, shot in the wrist and abdomen, was in critical condition, while the teen was in good condition with a gunshot wound to the back, police said.
About 5:10 p.m., a man was while walking in West Englewood.
The man, 19, was in the 7300 block of South Loomis when someone came out of an alley, fired shots and ran away, police said. He was shot in the chest, arm and ankle, and was taken to Christ Medical Center where his condition stabilized.
Two men were shot 10 minutes earlier in a possible drive-by attack in the Douglas neighborhood.
The men, described only as adults, were each shot in the right leg about 5 p.m. in the 2700 block of South State, police said. They were both taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where their conditions had stabilized.
Thursday's first shooting happened in Englewood about 2 a.m. and left a 16-year-old boy seriously injured.
The teen was walking in the 5800 block of South Green when someone opened fire from a passing vehicle, police said. He was shot in the right side of his lower back and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.
