4 Hurt In Edgewater When Porch Railing Gives Way
CHICAGO (STMW) - Four people fell and were injured when a porch railing they were leaning on gave way in the North Side Edgewater neighborhood Friday night.
Emergency crews responded to the incident in the 5600 block of North Ridge Avenue about 11:33 p.m., Fire Media Affairs Chief Joe Roccasalva said.
Two people were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition while a third person was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in fair-to-serious condition, he said.
The fourth person who fell was a 30-year-old man who lived at the home and refused treatment, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
Those hospitalized included a 22-year-old woman, a 28-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, Mirabelli said.
Officials could not immediately say how far they fell, but the people had been leaning against a railing that failed, Roccasalva said. The porch itself did not collapse.
