3 Held After Shooting, Crash That Leaves 2 Officers Injured

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three people were in custody Tuesday morning, accused of shooting a man, then leading police on a chase that ended in a crash in which two officers were injured.
As CBS 2's Susanna Song reports, the chain of events started at a Marathon gas station in the 7100 block of South Ashland Avenue, in the Englewood neighborhood, just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police saw a gunman shoot and wound a 19-year-old man.
"They literally see a guy walk up and shoot the victim at point blank range," said Chicago Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden.
Officers fired shots at the gunman, but missed.
The suspect then jumped into a vehicle and took off.
Police pursued the getaway car, until the squad car crashed into the suspect's vehicle at 73rd Street and Hermitage Avenue.
Police said the gunman tried to run away, but was arrested, along with two other men inside the getaway car.
Two officers suffered minor injuries, limited to bumps and bruises.
"We see young police officers out doing their job in the wee hours of the morning, and come upon a shooting in progress," Camden said. "Even with restraint, when you see somebody being shot, and you're a police officer, you take action."
As of 5 a.m., the officers had been released from the MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn and were resting up at home.
The shooting victim was wounded in the shoulder, and police say he was still hospitalized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in fair to serious condition.
