3 Democratic Candidates Fight GOP On Medicare, Budget
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A trio of Democrats has banded together to campaign for Congress against Republicans on the issue of Medicare, and the budget.
As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, candidates Tammy Duckworth, Bill Foster and Brad Schneider appeared together Thursday for a joint news conference.
Duckworth is facing Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) in the 8th Congressional District, former Congressman Foster is facing Rep. Judy Biggert (R-Ill.) in the 11th, and Schneider is facing Rep. Robert Dold (R-Ill.) in the 10th.
"I think that all three of us are running for Congress with the idea of a thoughtful voice that really thinks about what the issues are, and the long-term good for the people that we're representing," Foster said.
All three candidates called on their sitting opponents to reject the GOP budget proposal, which the democrats warn would eventually kill off Medicare.
Schneider added that high gas prices shouldn't start a drilling rush to the American wilderness.
By contrast, the Republicans say serious cuts are needed to Medicare to ensure the nation's long-term financial health.
