3 Dead, At Least 5 Wounded In Weekend Violence
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three people have been killed and at least another five wounded in gun violence throughout Chicago this weekend.
The violence began Friday night when a teenage boy was shot dead in the South Side Calumet Heights neighborhood.
The 17-year-old was shot in the head about 6:15 p.m. in the 9200 block of South Chappel Avenue, police said. Derrick Davis, 17, of the 9100 block of South Chappel Ave., was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
A few hours later a 33-year-old man shot and killed in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The man was walking on the sidewalk about 8:45 p.m. in the 3800 block of West Congress Parkway when someone shot him multiple times, according to Gaines. He was shot in the torso and neck, police said.
Mushun Franklin, 33, of the 3600 block of West Congress Parkway, was pronounced dead at 9:22 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the medical examiner's office.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, a 21-year-old man was shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
The man was in the 300 block of North Laramie Avenue when he was shot in the side, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stable, Gaines said.
A woman was shot early Saturday in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. The woman, 35, was in the 1300 block of South Kedzie Avenue about midnight when she was shot in the torso, police said.
She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.
A man was shot early Sunday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Preliminary reports indicated the man was shot in either his side or his leg about 12:45 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Wabansia Street, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The 20-year-old victim was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and is listed in good condition, police said.
Two men were shot -- one fatally -- in an apparent gang-related dispute in front of a Bridgeport neighborhood fast food restaurant Sunday morning.
About 5:20 a.m., police responded to a call of shots fired in the 900 block of West 35th Street, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
When officers arrived on the scene they found two men lying on the sidewalk in front of the 24-hour restaurant.
One of them, a 25-year-old man, was dead on the scene, with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Mirabelli. The other victim, a 35-year-old man, had suffered gunshot wounds to the shoulder, back and buttocks, Mirabelli said. He was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
The two men had been standing in line on the sidewalk outside the restaurant when they were approached by two males, Mirabelli said. An altercation ensued and the two victims were shot. The gunmen then fled the scene. Police believe the incident to be a confrontation between members of two rival street gangs.
