3 Dead, 26 Wounded In Weekend Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three people are dead and at least 26 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon, police said.
The most recent fatal shooting happened about 11:35 a.m. Sunday, when a 41-year-old William Bailey was shot to death in the South Side Washington Heights neighborhood.
Bailey, of the 7300 block of South Union Avenue, was shot in the back in a garage in the 9200 block of South Emerald Avenue, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 12:35 p.m., authorities said.
Earlier Sunday morning, Jabari Davis, 29, was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the 900 block of East 81st Street about 7:15 a.m., authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:21 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
Four hours earlier, Terrance McNeal, 23, died after he was shot in the Austin neighborhood, authorities said.
McNeal, of the 400 block of North Leamington Avenue, was fighting with another male on the sidewalk in the 400 block of North Leclaire Avenue at 3:15 a.m. when the other pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times, authorities said.
He was shot in the abdomen and arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 5:37 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
About five minutes earlier, four people were shot in the River North neighborhood, police said.
The group was standing in a cul-de-sac in the 500 block of West Erie Street at 3:10 a.m. when people in a dark-colored sedan driving past flashed gang signs before opening fire, police said.
A 20-year-old man was shot in the head and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition Sunday night, according to police. Police initially said the man had died.
An 18-year-old man shot in the left shoulder and a 19-year-old man shot in the right foot were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Another 20-year-old man went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds to the left arm and torso. All were listed in "stable" condition, police said.
Police said all four are documented gang members.
The most recent non-fatal shooting happened early Monday in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood on the Far South Side.
The shooting happened about 12:15 a.m. in the 13200 block of South Forrestville Avenue when someone opened fire from a car that headed eastbound, police said. The man, 32, was shot in both feet and taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was listed in "stable" condition. Police said the victim has gang affiliations.
About 11:20 a.m. Sunday, two men were shot in the South Shore neighborhood.
The men were shot in the 7300 block of South Oglesby Avenue, police said. A 28-year-old man was in serious condition at South Shore Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, and an 18-year-old man was "stable" condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.
Saturday afternoon, a 15-year-old was shot in the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side.
The teen was shot in the torso and leg about 1:50 p.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of South Christiana Avenue, police said. He was taken to a hospital in serious-to-critical condition.
Two men were wounded earlier Saturday in a shooting in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side Saturday afternoon.
About 12:40 p.m., the men — ages 22 and 25 — were shot in the 2000 block of West 79th Street, police said. The 22-year-old was taken in critical condition to Christ Medical with three gunshot wounds. The 25-year-old was in serious condition at Christ after being shot in the arm and leg. Police think the shooting may have been gang-related.
Earlier Saturday, a 33-year-old man was shot and seriously wounded in the Austin neighborhood.
The man was walking on the sidewalk in the 5000 block of West Maypole Avenue about 5:05 a.m. when he was approached by someone who started shooting at him, striking him once in the face, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.
Fifteen other people were injured in city shootings and were in "stable" or good condition, police said.
No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
